No disrespect to the 101, but I had never heard of Major Winters until that mini-series. The people that I had always admired growing up were 2nd Lt. Audie L. Murphy from Farmersville, Texas -- the most highly decorated U.S. soldier in ww2. Also people like Michael Wittman, the famed Tiger Ace or Hans Rudel the Stuka Pilot.

Audie was a piece of work!! Actually there were many Allied and Axis heroes that one never hears about!! One of my favorites is Paddy Flint of the US 9th ID. He used to run around in a red undershirt in full view of the enemy, ala A.P. Hill of Civil War fame, until the Germans finally got him in Normandy. A sad lose!! Best wishes.

Here's my 2-cents worth.
My main interests are finding OOB's and Fuhrerlisten for different Waffen-SS divisions. I am doing major research on the 7 major SS Panzer Divisions, the 6 major SS Panzergrenadier Divisions and the Prinz Eugen Gebirgs Division. I do not really care about what equipped them, just the personalities and the unit structures.

For some reason I have a difficult time using the term favorite for such a serious subject. Using the term favorite kind of equates this subject more like pop culture more than a serious historical subject

But then what I am saying is more or less semantics to some.

I prefer fascinating, interesting

Interests, what i like to study or read about.
1. The late war divisions created out of desperation from criminals and training schools.
2. Commanders don't really have any
3. Recipients don't really have any
4. Battle of Berlin, Halbe pocket, Vienna and Prague Offensives
5. Figures, used to and wouldn't mind getting back into it.

John Ringo's Posleen War SCI FI series has quite literally "resurrected" the Waffen SS. The threat from outer space forces them to rejuvenate a senile Mulhlenkamp who forms 8 SS divs to fight the cannibalistic aliens. Not a bad read - called Watch on the Rhine.
