Silent Hunter 2 is nice but the latest version 3 will outclass any submarine game at this moment.

The V for Victory series that was published by Atomic games in the early nineties are actually still the best and most realistic games I have seen, despite their paltry size. Apart from that, there isn't much to write home about I think.
I liked Panzer General I, if mainly because of the fun of building an increasingly lethal army over time. The close combat series I think is pretty good, if not very durable.
And regarding Hearts of Iron, I can think of only one good thing to say about it: It's a WWII strategic simulation. Actually, I can think of an even better thing to say about it: It's the ONLY WWII strategic simulation around, apart from some dinosaurs that don't really merit attention. Apart from that, I think it's basically an unsuccessful game design with a cumbersome, virtually implayable interface and basic game mechanisms wholly unsuited to the epoch.
cheers

"Red Orchestra" mod for UT2004. It's a fantastically realistic FPS game. excellent graphics, surperb gameplay. you are not a true WWII gamer until you've played it.
"DOD: Source" will be great, since it'll be DOD but with better graphics.
"WWII Online", though extremely dated, is a wonderful and extremely realistic MMO WWII FPS game. THE most team-oriented game I have ever played. the only thing thats holding it back is the graphics, which are pre Half-Life quality at best. If they would were to update them, I think it would be a smash hit.
"Forgotten Hope" Mod for BF1942. It's what Battlefield should have been.

Check this one out..
PT Boats, Knights Of The Sea. This is not out yet, but it looks promising. Check out some screenies here:

I've always thought that pt boats would be a great gaming platform, fast and with enough firepower to sink a battleship.

The 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, shortening the lifespan of America's enemies since 1846.
A good non-PC game
Is there a good game where there are no set bad guys? Where you can fight and have Germans be good, and the Red Army bad?
