Does anyone know how many rounds were carried by a G43 SS panzergrenader or a K98 toting SS soldat?
I know that they were issued 2 k98 ammo pouches and the guys with G43s had one G43 pouch and one K98, but besides that, how many rounds would a soldier generally carry?

A K98 Schütze had two ammo pouches with 45 rounds in 9 clips each with 5 rounds. In combat he was additionally supplied with 15 rounds from the Gefechtswagen.
A G43 Schütze had 4 ammo pouches with 4 magazines á 10 rounds.

The german fire fight tactic was based around the light machinegun in the squad and the support weapons like mortars, infantry guns etc... The fire fight with rifles was secondary and not as often as some may think. And the Gefechtswagen of the platoon had of course ammo stored.darkwater wrote:Thanks for the quick response. Seems like a small amount of ammo, guess they had to make their shots really count.
