Whose Platoon Was Best Equipped???
June 1944, compare average infantry platoons in an average infantry divisions. Whose was better equipped--could put out the most firepower in a fight? German, Russian, American or British? Best Regards, David
Death is lighter than a Feather, Duty is heavier than a Mountain....
I would say German for sure. Comprised of K98's, G43's, MP40's, PPSH41's, MP44's, and everything in-between. With the additition of MG42's and modern AT weapons (Schreck, faust).
The average infantry squad however, would have to be American. Everything is at least semi-auto. Garands, Thomas', BARs, M1 Carbines, .30cal, even Grease Guns.

At the squad level, clearly the Germans. In most situations, the greater part of a squad's firepower lies in it's machine gun. Not only the MG-42, but also the MG-34 was a very superior weapon to the BAR or the Bren. At a higher level, the situation was partly offset by the heavy machine guns of allied support companies. Not sure about the situation in the Red Army.
