Re: Search for relative Sebastopol front
If he was in Sewastopol he might be killed in Mai 1944. If he is a relative and you know his date of birth, ask at http://www.dd-wast.de. They should be able to tell you about his unit and then you will find people here, who knows something about.Dominique Fauquet-Lemaitr wrote:Search for relative Sebastopol front

But you can also read in some books about the encirlement at Sewastopol (but there you won't get personal information about Peter von Mutius).

Thank you again. Interestingly enough I noticed a posting for a search of a veteran which mentioned WAST SITE. So I contacted them a couple of days ago.
With my regards

Gentlemen,
Thank you for monitoring my messages and for such prompt answers.
I realize that this search will take some time; I therefore intend to try to approach it from two different fronts, if I may say. The german family side might help, I am going to call them this sunday in Europe.
Thank you again
Have a good week end.

Erratum; I discovered that my cousin in fact was Erhart Von Mutius; and he died at Stalingrad. I was misinformed by a relative. I am in touch with his sister but this is going to take time.
With my regards.

According to Die Träger des Deutschen Kreuzes in Gold (Das Heer) by Horst Scheibert (Podzun-Pallas Verlag, Friedberg, Germany, 1983), an Oberleutnant Erhard von Mutius received the German Cross in Gold on 27 October 1942. He was in the 7th Company of Panzer-Grenadier-Regiment 64 at the time of his award. This regiment was a component of the 16. Panzer-Division which was destroyed at Stalingrad.
Best regards,
Shawn

Thank you Shawn
Shawn,
Thank you Shawn and all of you at Feldgrau. I am progressing in my search. His father was the German ambassador in Istanbul.
Are there photographic documents of the 7th company or even 16.Panzer Division?
I am going to find out what The German Cross looks like.
Shawn, thank you again.
With my regards

The British Library has at least two books on the 16. Panzer Division:
"Die 16. Panzer-Division 1938-1945. Bewaffnung, Einsätze, Männer."
by Günter Schmitz.
Podzun-Pallas-Verlag, Friedberg (1977)
pp. 176
"Bildband der 16. Panzer-Division, 1939-1945."
[Wolfgang Werthen?]
Bad Nauheim (1956)
pp. 171.

"Geschichte der 16. Panzer-Division - Weg und Schicksal"
Wolgang Werthen
Podzun, Bad Nauheim 1958 (2. Auflage 1986)
