POL-35790 ?

Post by Ernst-H »

Is it possible to identify what car and unit a set of numberplates belonged to?

I recently acquired this matching set of Polizei numberplates. They were grounddug near Nijmegen in the Netherlands by a friend of mine.

They are in remarkable good condition considering they were in the ground for 60 years. Som corrosion to the alluminium but most of the paint is still on it.

Now I was wondering if it is possible to find out what car it belonged to, what unit etc.

As said, the plates were found near Nijmegen. Nijmegen area was liberated in september1944 (operation market garden)

These plates were found with a number of other items suggesting that cars and such had been captured and taken into use by the allies or the civilian population, plates removed on the spot and trown in a pit etc..

The plates have a Dusseldorf approval stamp on them.

--> Does anyone know which Polizei units where in Nijmegen area in september 1944?

--> Does anyone, by any small chance, know what car these plates belonged to

--> Does anyone, by any small chance, have a picture of that car carrying these plates?

i know it is a long shot but it is worth the try
