30 infantry division ?

Post by heidemann »

I suppose this dog tag is from the 30. inf. division is that assumption correct ?

2. / N. 30

0 115

Can anyone please tell me how to identify the veteran who carried this dog tag.

I'm no expert in dogatgs, but that is an awfully brief unit designation!

2./N.30

IF I had to guess, I would say 2.Kompanie/Nachrichtenabteilung 30,
but I don't recall seeing such a short version of Nachr.Abt. before.

What was the Nachrichtenabteilung and where did they serve during the war ?

Hello!

Nachrichtenabteilung 30 was element of the 30.Infanteriedivision. A Nachr.Abt. was responsible for setting up communication lines within the division and to other units.

Go here for a history of the 30.Inf.Div.: http://www.feldgrau.com/30i.html

I guess the number 0 115 must refer to the soldiers number, but is it possible to find out the identity of that veteran, and how do I do it ?

The O is the letter O, not the number 0 - it stands for his blood type. The 115 is his Kriegstammrollennummer (unit roster number). Those unit rosters are possibly in the possession of the DRK or the WASt and prehaps you can determine the name thru applying for info on their websites.

Could you please tell me what DRK and WASt is. Perhaps you have a link to their homepages. Thanks.

Here's a big tip...when someone tells you that an organization has a website, go to google.com and search there - you will find your answer in a few seconds.

If that's too hard for you, go to Jason's page

Hey take it easy Frederick, it was just a polite question. If you don't want to answer couldn't you just say so, it's ok with me. Just spare me for the other rubbish.

...but I did answer your question! And I gave you the advice I would give everybody - use google.com and you will find things which others may not even know to suggest to you.
