Help with identification of military leaders/ officials

Post by ponyfizz »

Hi,

My grandfather was in the German Army possibly up to 1935. He had the following photos (links below) from a parade he was probably in.

I am wondering who the officials might be at the side of the parade and what year this might be. One shows Japanese, Russians and high ranking Germans. The two photos may have been taken at different times.

Thanks for any help.

The only one i can identify is the guy with the bearskin hat (probably a "Leibhusaren" hat) in picture 2.
that is Generalfeldmarschall von Mackensen, a famous WWI cavalry commander. after GFM von Hindenburg s death he was the longest-serving german soldier. he was strictly anti-nazi and pro-monarchy, but the nazis nerver did anything about his opposition because he was so popular. he died sometime during the war in his late 80s
sorry, thets the only one i noticed.

Possible match on "Parade 1" jpeg

Hi

Just a wild guess, but the general talking to the two soldiers in steel helmets in the jpeg labeled "parade1" might be Franz Halder.

Parade 2 is Generalmajor (later GenInf) Friedrich Herrlein meeting GFM v. Mackensen.

parade1 on the right is Werner von Fritsch, the others it's hard to say, too much shade on their faces.
