Hello to all :D; one more...........

Georg Schmid (14 March 1909, Pfullingen – 28 October 1990, Tübingen, Germany).

Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross as Leutnant der Reserve and Adjutant of the II./ Jäger-Regiment 229 - 101. Jäger-Division. Awarded on 02 June 1943.

The following excerpt from a divisional order of the day (dated 05 June 1943) describes why Schmid was awarded the Knight's Cross...

“…Leutnant Schmid overcame an almost hopeless situation during the difficult retreat battles south of Krassnodar thanks to his determined action and inspiring personal bravery.

On the night of 09/10 February 1943, the enemy managed to capture Trushenik and the next day launched a regimental attack on Kulturnij. The attack came in four waves and was supported by six tanks. The first opposition was made by the young and inexperienced grenadiers of the Feldausbildungs-Regiment 381. They had recently finished their service in the RAD, but the terror of the tanks overtook them and they abandoned their positions. They fled to the rear, through and past the village, and it was not long before two enemy tanks entered the town.

In this critical situation, Lt. Schmid crossed the battlefield, standing tall even under intense enemy fire. He quickly surrounded the fleeing grenadiers and forced them back to their positions by his example of exceptional personal bravery and unwavering calm. Lt. Schmid deployed his young grenadiers for a counterattack and, under the inspiration of this extremely brave officer, they found the courage to rush at the enemy with cries of hurrah! The Bolsheviks then fled in disarray. “They lost 350 dead and 65 prisoners, among them a regimental commander and five other officers.

Lt. Schmid thus thwarted the enemy's plan to cut off the retreat route from Krassnodar to Noworossisk with his decisive intervention in the battle.”
