Andrzejewo - September 13, 1939.

However, some elements of the 18 DP managed to escape the encirclement, among them about 100 soldiers under the command of an officer who crossed the Bug and joined the 33 DP; the divisional cavalry, commanded by por. Roszkowski, who later took part in the Battle of Kock; about 400 soldiers under pplk. Lucjan Stanek, who later fought against the 206 ID; about 120 men under pplk Waclaw Malinowski who joined the Cavalry Brigade "Suwalki"; two companies commanded by mjr. Drewnowski, who joined the Cavalry Brigade "Podlaska" and a group under the command of the Chief of Staff of the division, pplk. Pluta-Czachowski who joined the 41 DP.

Andrzejewo - September 13, 1939.

The soldiers seriously wounded and sick were housed in a temporary field hospital set at the Andrzejewo church, while the slightly wounded and ill and those unhurt were transported to Zambrow and grouped in the main square of the barracks.

In a confusing incident in the night from 13 to 14 September 1939 and as the prisoners lay on the floor, there was a stampede of horses which caused panic among Poles and Germans who opened fire with machine guns, killing and wounding many prisoners until an officer ordered the ceasefire.
