Hi, Tom

It's really ( no disrespect to fallen on all sides in Russland) my winter survival kit for life here in England...

But naw, it caught my eye and I reckoned it would make a good recognition and learning exercise for fellow truppen.

1st prize is cleaning my kitchen oven.

Bitte..I was away from home over Xmas break, in a farm cottage near Stranraer in SW Scotland, with no Wi-fi, and my fone allows me to read e-mails but not to answer them so couldn't reply.

Aye, fekkin collectors. Shoot 'em :->

I hope that you had a Stille und Heilige Nacht.....and that your New Year celebrations are joyful with a healthy year ahead.

Am just - for the 1000th time :-> - watching the movie 'A Bridge Too Far'.

The British XXX Corps commander says in the film that the Arnhem paratroopers would, in Wild West of America terms, be the 'besieged homesteaders', that the Germans would be 'well, the bad guys' and that XXX Corps would be 'the cavalry coming to the rescue'. If only war were that simple.

The current movie scene is that of the 21 Army Group HQ medical officer suggesting to a Intelligence Officer, that he is fatigued and needs R&R. The Intelligence Officer in question was the one who kept arguing, in defiance of 21AG HQ belief / self-enforced ignorance, that RAF recon fotos showing camouflaged German / SS tanks in the Arnhem area should be interpreted as meaning that enemy armour had appeared in strength.

The British general he showed the pix to said that the pix were only few in number and were the only ones of thousands to show tanks in that specific area. And anyway, said the general, the German tanks were probably not fully serviceable. The Intelligence officer asked if that were so then why would the Germans hide them beneath trees?

The General said that 16 consecutive similar drops had been cancelled and that he wouldn't be responsible for cancelling the biggest operation so far planned on the strength of a few inconclusive fotos. The junior officer was over-ruled and, as above, medically relieved of his post. We know the rest.

So..yes, fekkin' collectors...put them on a barge and sink it out at sea :->.

Grus and Happy New Year.
