Some findings about the 11. Kriegs-Junker-Lehrgang.

In comparison with the other officer courses of the Waffen-SS, the 11. Kriegs-Junker-Lehrgang had many Flemish participants. 42 of them finished the course successfully. These Flemish participants where:

Hi!

As you can see at the graduation list some SS-St.Ob.Junkers were sent to Waffen-Lehrgang and other not, why?

On page 1 a lot of Junkers were sent directely to III.(germ.)SS-Pz.Korps without attending any Waffen-Lehrgang.

What was the reason to that? Any idea?

I think the III.(germ.) SS-Panzerkorps needed replacement officers as soon as possible. The Langemarck and Wallonien brigades were rebuilding away from the front, so there wasn't such a hurry to get the officers there.

As to Walloons not being at the 14. KJL, by the summer of 1944, many Frenchmen were receiving officer training. So the Walloons began attending French-language courses with the French Junkers at Kienschlag and Sophienwald. Later, Romanian Junkers also attended these courses, since Romanian is a Romance-language similar to French.

Hi!

The norwegians on page 1 and 2 of the Sonderverteiler dated 14.3.11, all of them who were sent to III.(germ.)SS-Pz.Korps without attending any Waffen-Lehrgang had previousy served in the WIKING and Frw. LEGION NORWEGEN at the front, except these individuals;

JANSEN - former norw. officer, did not have any former W-SS frontline experience
WINDINGSTAD - was sent to Tölz from Schi.Kompanie did not serve at the front in the W-SS earlier
AAGAARD - same as above
MARTINSEN - same as above
BALSTAD - served 3 years as Hilfsausbilder at Sennheim, had no previous frontline duties with W-SS

Could it be that those who were sent to Waffen-Lehrgang had not served at the front in the ranks of W-SS earlier?

Those attending the 8 and 9 wartime course at Tölz did NOT attend any Waffen-Lehrgang after Tölz at all.

Was this the case for other nationalities attending this 11 wartime course? Any comment on the dutch, danes, swedish, wallon and flamish participants?

I came to the conclusion that all thirteen Flemish SS-Oberjunker of the 11. Kriegs-Junker-Lehrgang, who where not send to the 11. Oberjunker-Lehrgang where send directly to the SS-Sturmbrigade ‘Langemarck’ (III. SS-Pz.-Korps). One of them was send to the Flak-Bttr. in the München (SS-Flak-Ausb.u.Ers.Rgt.), the others where probably all send to the SS-Truppenübungsplatz in ‘Böhmen’. Here a Kampgruppe was raised under the command of the SS-Hauptsturmführer Rehmann. This Kampfgruppe was send to Narwa with the SS-Oberjunker Van Bockel, Van Leemputten, Van Moll, Swinnen, Groenvynck and D’Haese, from which only the last two officers survived the battle.
The Flemish officers that where send to the 11. Oberjunker-Lehrgang where spread throughout the Waffen-SS, in the ‘LSSAH’, the ‘Das Reich’, the ‘Wiking’, the ‘Hitler-Jugend’, the ‘Horst Wessel’, some of them where eventually send to the SS-Division ‘Langemarck’.
And yes, I have, or I try to have all names of the Flemish SS-officers of the Waffen-SS.

Thanks Micael..

Those flemish participants (SS-St.Ob.Ju) who were sent directely to frontline divisions after 11 wartime course at Tölz, did they all had former frontline combat experience in i.e. WIKING or Frw. Legion FLANDERN? Those sent to Waffen-Lehrgang after Tölz did they had any former combat experience at all?

My guess is that those participants who were sent to Waffen-Lehrgang did NOT have former frontline combat experience in the east.

Those finnished the 8th and 9th wartime course at Tölz DID not attend any Waffen-Lehrgang at all when they finnished Tölz. One former norw. WIKING veteran from 6./GERMANIA (service 10.2.41-17.8.42) in the 9th wartime course was sent to SS-Pz.Abt. 11 Hermann von Salza WITHOUT attending any Pz.Umshulungs-Lehrgang. He went there with two other norwegians, none of them had any clue on panzer...

The 11. Oberjunker-Lehrgang was the first Waffen-Lehrgang following a Junker-Lehrgang. So far as I know there weren’t any subsequented Waffen-Lehrgänge after the 8. and 9. Kriegs-Junker-Lehrgänge.
Most of the Flemish SS-Oberjunker that attended an Oberjunker-Lehrgang had front experience. Two Flemish Junker that where transferred from the 3. Lehrgang für germanische Offiziere to the 11. Kriegs-Junker-Lehrgang didn’t had any front experience (in the ranks of the Waffen-SS), these Junker were Heyman and Van Hilst.

Michael, what about Marcel Laperre? Was he part of the 3. LfGO? Or the 11. KJL? Or both? He also was assigned to KG Rehmann after graduating from Bad Tölz, and survived the summer 1944 fighting.

Wasn't Gerardus Mooyman sent straight to 2./SS-PJA 54, to take over a platoon? That would be a Dutch example.

The other two Flemish officers within the Kampfgruppe where Jan Uten and Marcel Laperre. Both men where participants of the shorter '3. Lehrgang für germanische Offiziere'. Laperre was also a participant of the Oberjunker-Lehrgang.

Thanks Michael!

So there is no good explanation too WHY some of the participants of 11. wartime course at Tölz were sent to Ober-Junker-Lehrgang and other not? As you have stated both experienced flemish eastern front veterans and newbes were sent to Oberjunker-Lehrgang.

Other opinion to this question is higly recomended!

"Kreigs-Junkerlehrgang" simply means wartime officer course. This contrasts with a "Friedens-Junkerlehrgang" which was a peace-time officer course with the last one ending in 1939.
