SS-Ostuf. Stefan FLORIAN - SS-Pz.Gr.Rgt 23 "NORGE"

Post by Regiment Norge »

Hi!

This officers (born 5.2.13 Korpona/CSR) was within the SS-Pz.Gren.Rgt 23 "NORGE" between July 1943 and March 1945 as Cp.-Chef and Officer Z.b.V, later he was transferred to SS-Pz.Gren.A.u.E.Btl. 11 in Feldbach from March 1945 to May 1945. He entered russian captivity on May 8th, 1945 and was released from prison in Budapest in august 1948.

Have anyone any clue what company he commanded in the Rgt. 23 NORGE, this person is totally unknown to me, or does anybody have aditional information on him?

Interesting. I checked the Berlin Document Center index of all Allgemeine-SS/SD officers and there is nobody with the name of Stefan Florian. With all of the many personnel documents of the III. SS-panzer Korps that we have see, how often does a new SS-Ostuf. turn up that we have not seen documented in official period documents. I don't know why someone would claim to be an SS officer when they were not. Maybe this is a false name. I am skeptical.

Hi!

Yes it is indeed strange that he pops up like a wizard from nowwere. My first though that he could have been an Tapferkeitsoffizier....

Well I had to dig my files and finally found him listed as an SS-Oberscharführer as of 21.08.1944 in the 6./Norge. Both name, place of birth and birthdate are the same. So an Oscha becomes an Ostuf after the war in 1948.....

Case solved I guess......

Why change his rank? Perhaps to try to get a bigger eventual pension? Just a guess.

Today I found him on a transfer list to 3. Lehrgang für germanische Offiziere on page 5. He was sent from SS-Pz.Gren.A.u.E.Btl. 11 as an SS-Schütze in october 1943. The birthdate states 5.2.12 here.
