W-SS "loaned" to army units?

Post by jgilbert »

I'm working on a project and was wondering, what is the possiblility of a, say, W-SS machine gunner meeting up with reg. Army troops and advancing with them. Like if the MGer was seperated from his unit or something?

Certainly possible, and documented on more than one occasion.

In Normandy the Divisionsbegleit- Kompanie of the 12. SS-Panzerdivision "Hilterjugend" was under the command of the Panzer-Lehr-Division for a few days because the gap between both Divisions had to be closed or so. You can read about this in the history of the 12. SS-Panzerdivision by Hubert Meyer.

Thanks guys, anyone know of any pics online or anywhere? I found one in my Kurowski book "Infantry Aces" but It was mostly SS with a Heer MG'er.
