The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V Question?
Is it me But can anyone tell me why the The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V doesn't give regiment / unit identification on its website? (Unlike the Commonwealth War Graves Commission)

Re: The Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V Question?
Hi postofficeworker,
While I am not an expert I would say that the reason would be the lack of the British regimental system, ie as long as a landser stays in a unit from the same wehrkreiss he is very interchangeable whereas a commonwealth soldier generally only changes at most between battalions in the same regiment thus the German soldier moves between regiments and divisions as required. This in my humble opinion is why German soldiers were able in so many circumstances able to regroup after heavy losses ie their cohesion was based on something other than unit identification.
Cheers,
John K
