The Infanterie Regiment before the WWII.
The IR 42 was raised in Bayreuth on Oct 1936 with its I and III Battalions at Bayreuth and its II. Battalion at Hof. Its first Commanding Officer was Oberst Blümm. The unit was part of the 10 ID till Nov 1938 then was shifted to raise the 46 ID in the Sudetenland.
The March towards the Sudetenland.
On Sep 28 1938, the 10 ID ocuppied its, previously reconnoitred, readiness area in order to carried out the attack against Checoslovakia in the wooded land of Eschlkam – Furth. The Division was part of the XIII AK within the Generaloberst von Reichenau’s Army.
However, on Sep 29 1938, after the Munich’s Pact signed by Hitler, Chamberlain, Deladier and Mussolini, the Sudetenland would be taken without fights and the 10 ID was quickly organized in order to seize the newly gained ground. Hence the Division was assembled around Waldmünchen - Schönsee
On Oct 05 1938, the IR 42 (reinfrced) went back to Hostau and occupied there a security area up to Saaz with its Command Post at Franzensbad.
The IR 41 (reinforced) under Oberst Gollwitzer marched by Wassersuppen and Ronsperg towards Bischofteinitz taken the sector from there up to the Reich's border. while the IR 20 was marching on foot up to one area located west of Karlsbad with its Command Post at Karlsbad. The 10 ID’s Command Post was at Marienbad.
