And one point goes to... Waleed!

Herr B is none other that Kapitänleutnant and ELT Engelbert Endraß!

Indeed it is Endrass, IWO under Prien in U-47 at Scapa Flow.
As it says in Lexikon-der-Wehrmacht: "Auf ihn geht auch das Emblem von U-47 zurück, der "Stier von Scapa Flow"."

A few days after Royal Oak was sunk the Luftwaffe caused the beaching of HMS Iron Duke also at Scapa Flow. 4./KG1 had a Stier in its emblem too. Just wondering if Herr A may have commanded that airraid?

Best regards,

Paul

Good morning Paul!

Engelbert Endraß was indeed serving on the U-47 during Prien's daring raid into Scapa Flow. But this was before Endraß became famous in his own right, so the sinking of the HMS "Royal Oak" has no connection to this riddle.

And so, Our RKT Luftwaffe Hauptmann Herr B has no connection to KG 1, even if the "Stier" connection was more than an educated guess! But our pilot served in the same type of flying branch as this well known Gentleman...

Herr C

And yes, Herr C is also part of the connection that are shared by Herr A and Engelbert Endraß... You're quite close Paul!

Hmmm... Could Herr A be Walter Oesau?
Herr C looks a lot like Adolf Galland. All 3 received the Spanien Kreuz besides the RK and, and, and...

Hmmmm... :[]

Sorry Waleed, but our Jagdflieger Herr A is not Walter Oesau! Even if the Spanienkreuz was a good one since Endraß also wore one, although not in Gold with Diamonds as Galland (yes, he's Herr C!) and Oesau but in Bronze. As far as I know, Jagdflieger und RKT Herr A did not serve in the Condor Legion and thus was not awarded with this particular decoration.

So what do we have...

There's a special "popular" connection between Herr A, the U-boat Ace Engelbert Endraß and the Fighter Ace Adolf Galland.

Several good (but wrong  ) educated guesses have been put forward. I dare say that Paul leads by points... (Yes, a clue!)

Herr A's father was a (high ranking) Luftwaffe officer who, in the beginning of his (the father's) second career held a command over something that now is quite hotly debated in Germany as we speak...

One more pictorial clue to come later tonight or tomorrow regarded the connection... :D

There's a special "popular" connection between Herr A, the U-boat Ace Engelbert Endraß and the Fighter Ace Adolf Galland
- and following up on Paul's good "emblem" lead I ask... would that speciality be a popular cartoon figure like... Mickey Mouse!?

U-46 (commanded by Endraß from May to September 1941), Horst (son of General der Flieger Victor) Carganico (if Herr A is he) and Galland all had Mickey Mouse emblems!

Waleeeeed

Yes, these Gentlemen all used Mickey Mouse as insigna on their different steeds... I remembered the old Disney thread and made a riddle out of it!

So, Herr A was none other than Horst Carganico, who recieved the RK on 25.09.1941 as an Oberleutnant and Staffelkpt. 1./JG 77. He had shot down 60 enemy aircraft when he struck high tension cables, crashed and died on 27.05.1944 in France. He used a very prominent Mickey Mouse character on his plane...

Herr B was the U-boat Ace Engelbert Endraß who won the RK on 05.09.1940 as an Oberleutnant z.S. and went on to win the EL (no. 14) on 10.06.1941 as a Kapitänleutnant, both awards came while successfully commanding the U-46. I have to admit than I haven't been able to establish if it was Engelbert Endraß personally who choose the Mickey Mouse with Umbrella but he was the most famous of all the Skippers on U-46 so...

And Herr C was naturally Brilliantenträger and Generalleutnant Adolf Galland famous for his cigars and his Mickey Mouse emblem... The next photograph I was going to post was the folloing one...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney

Yes, it's a very young (17 years old) Walt Disney who volunteered to the Red Cross and ended up as an ambulance driver in France at the end of World War One. From there on it would have been very simple to solve this riddle I guess... :D

The photograph of Horst Carganico, no. 2 on Engelbert Endraß and of Adolf Galland were all from http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de from this websites biographical section and as such, a recommended section!

The first photograph of Endraß was taken from http://www.uboat.net while the photographs showing the actual Mickey Mouse emblems was taken from the very interesting website http://toonsatwar.blogspot.com/ which contain many interesting articles and a wide array of images as interesting as they are funny.

So, over to you Waleed, the Danish Heavyweight Riddler Champion! :!:

Btw, Horst Carganico's father Generalmajor Viktor Carganico re-entered service in the newly established Luftwaffe as a Major in 1934 and held the position of Airport-Commandant Tempelhof in Berlin between October 1934 and January 1939. The same Airport that now is under threat to be closed down. There will be (or have been?) a referrendum voting I think about this classical Airport's future...

Generalmajor Viktor Carganico was shot by the Russians on 27.05.1945. See some links...

More like Mosquito weight with my average 50 kg of body weight... but what a sting!

I'll keep it simple: A sub (uboot), a very special one.
Which sub is it, and what's the story behind the picture?
