Douglas B-18 Bolo

Post by phylo_roadking »

The B-18s in USAAC service were mostly destroyed at Pearl Harbour, although those that remained had a relatively successful if short maritime patrol career in various theatres for the first few months of 1942.

BUT...were there any in the Philippines, did any survive the raids on Clark Field to carry out any "conventional" bombing sorties?

A web search reveals there was a squadron of probablly a dozen at Clark Field 8 Dec 41. Most were destroyed. It is not clear if any were evacuated with the remaining B17s to the southern Phillpines, the Dutch airfields, or Australia.

That's a pity. I'd have loved to have known how this ugly POS actually fared in it's intended role! :D "If a plane looks good, it probably IS good" did NOT apply to the B-18....
