Good to hear you are doing better. Do you know of any WWII vets that saw any actions or were in the Ramstein Germany area during the war? I recently found out about an communications and control bunker in the city where I lived in Germany near kaiserlautern it is called Kindsbach. any vets know the area I am talking about? I remember seeing bullet holes in the train station signs and in the buildings like there was a big fight there. You couldnt miss the huge bomb craters in kindsbach, the americans tried to get the bunker but I heard they only caved in part of the tunnel system in the bunker. The bunker was big enough to drive a truck into the bunker and back out into landstuhl. Does anyone know the are I am talking about? Where did you see action at haen 2?

I am a new member here and thinks its exciting to be able to talk to german veterans. I am taking german II right now so if any native speakers would like to help me out I do have questions from time to time. I am taking german as a my required language I need two semisters. also haen 2 have you heard of sharkhunters.com? they have many WWII veterans both american and germans and other countries as well. I sent you an pm because I wasnt sure how often you check the boards. I hope I didnt do anything that is not polite Ediquitte on the board.

Hi people I am back for sofar as it goes.
Last Monday the 18th the bandages and packings came off and the outsideof the shoulder looks good; just a surgery scar of about 4 inches.
Internally several ligaments and tendons had to be grafted, so that will take an additional healing time (3-4 weeks).
Physical therapy starts next monday, for 6 weeks, to preven the joint from stiffening up. Thereafter (after evaluation by the surgeon) another 6 weeks for strengthening.
I am overwhelmed by your support ! Thanks.
That's all for now, I'm still "one finger typing".

I talked to Haen last night. Aside from not being able to use his upper arm, he sounded pretty good. Good spirits are half the battle!

Rehab/physical theropy is really one of the medical wonders of the decade. Not fun but often works wonders especially for those who are willing to under go pain for long term benefit.

Again best of luck. Glad to hear things are going so well and hope they continue to improve. Oh and don't push things too hard. Woudn't want to undo any of the doctors good work.

WHAT "long term ?" I am 81 :(
So yesterday I went, Ouch Ouch Ouch!!!
wonder if it's worth it.
I had been doing exercises on my own, based on my "old" med. knowledge.
Had done it all wrong, and got my butt chewed by the surgeon.
Cannot do any 'stressed' movements for at least another month.
Turns out I also got some osteoporosis. Thus slower healing of the grafts.
Oh well.

Take it easy HaEn, but do what the
doctors say.

Yes, even men get osteo. I guess your taking
calcium with magnesium and vitamin D now ?

Still not allowed to use the left upperarm; it seems that I am a slow healer at the moment.
All physical therapy has to be done "passively"; i.e. I am not allowed to cooperate, but must let them do all the work.
Getting mighty sick of the whole thing.
I hope that the woman who hit me, steps into the dogpoop once a day just before she gets into her car. :x
Oh well.
b.t.w. thanks for the e-mails.

Hello HN,
I just found out (haven't been on "Feldgrau" for a while) about your health problems. Don't let it get you down! We are still tough, aren't we?
I am still doing OK - a little forgetful but otherwise no big problems (I hope).
Best greetings from Texas und gute Besserung,
Rudi S.
