Please send your best wishes to Tom Houlihan

Post by Jason Pipes »

One of Feldgrau's long time members and respected forum moderators, Tom Houlihan, is in the hospital right now. We aren't sure of the prognosis yet but believe it has to do with his appendix. Regardless, the fact that he's there at all is troubling and I wanted to insure everyone was able to send him their best wishes for a speedy recover until he gets back on his feet!

GET BETTER SOON TOM. You are missed and our thoughts are with you.

Please be sure to keep Tom in your thoughts.

Thanks, friends!

I went in thinking I had a hernia. They started getting concerned about appendicitis, so I ended up staying the night so they could monitor white cell counts, fever, things like that. Well, it weren't neither one of those problems.

Twenty two hours with no food or even water. No smokes. I woke up with a caffeine-deprivation headache like it was cool! Three cups of coffee, though, and I was fine. Got checked out, got in the car, and immediately lit up. Felt much better.

I'll be going back Monday for a follow-up. One of the alternate problems seems likely now, but you don't need to know those details. Trust me, you don't want to.

Just like a year ago I went in. Turned out I had developed an infection that caused painful swelling. You REALLY don't want to know details on that, but it hammered home an important lesson. If you think something is wrong, go see a medic. It could be nothing, or something minor. Or it could be something worse. Get it checked out.

Sam, the deprivation was worse than the presenting pain!

So far, so good. I'll know more Monday.

Dear Mr Houlihan,

I also would like to send you my best wishes and that whatever else it is that you have been informed of, is NOT in any way serious.

-Some 'humour'-
Oh, and 24 hours without tobacco, "the horror, the horror". As Sherlock Holmes once said "24 hours [or was it 48hrs???] without food or water was bearable, but 24 hours [again, was it 48hrs???] without tobacco I found to be most irksome!" (I think from memory, this was from the story "The Dying Detective")

Not funny? OK, OK, I'll just get my coat :D

Chin up, mate,

Nick

Tom,

is it safe to say you feel better now so we can start making fun of you again?
