Here is another picture.

Yes he is an american. He served in Italy and after the war left the army at the rank of first liutenant.

What he did after that is what he is known for, that too is related to the military.

Catch 22?

Post by kanzel »

It's quiet here Magnus, we're all stumped so I'm taking one of my wild guesses.

Is it Joseph Heller, auther of "Catch 22"?

Good morning kanzel.

It's not Heller but the person did become known for his fictional work about the military.

One of the charachters is a sexist and inept brigadier general.

You found him Paulus! :?

Loved those comics as a kid.
Found this: http://www.stamfordhistory.org/ww2_walker.htm
Maybe same link as Magnus used, but no harm in posting it twice.

Yes, I found him!! :D
And a difficult search it was!
But sheer luck helped a lot in the end 8)

I'll wait for Magnus to give the 'all clear sign' before I post the next riddle though

Cheers,

Paul

Hello all and sorry for the delay, I've had some troubble getting onto the forum. Every time I tried it has been down.

As Paul correctly stated it is Mort Walker of Beetle Bailey fame. I have a ton of these comics in a closet somewhere :D

"My military career is almost a comic strip in itself." , that's the way he describes his time in the army. Full story can be found in the link Waleed posted or in the second link at the bottom of this post. There are also some photos he took while in Italy and some drawings, click on the sketchbook link at the botom of that page.

Over to you Paul.

Thank you Magnus.

Excellent riddle that was! I had almost forgotten about Beetle Bailey but did read a lot of the comics in years gone by 8)

So here's a new riddle, probably not too difficult.

The Luftwaffe gentleman in the middle:

What is his name and what is known for?

Happy riddling,

Paul

Indeed it is him Waleed!

Well done, even if it was a simple one

Here is Max Schmeling again, fully kitted out and on his way to action:

Image

Beat Joe Louis, never wanted to be used a propaganda "item", entered the Fallschirmjäger, got wounded in Crete and sold Coca Cola after the war.
How's that for a career

In my view a great man who chose his own path through life.

Over to you Waleed!
