If a man was promoted to Oberfaehnrich in say 1933, what rank could he have been expected to be in 1939/40?

Part of that is determined by the branch of service the soldier belongs to. if the branch was a combat branch they could possibly be a Hauptmann by the end of 1940.

Thanks. Makes sense as I'm coming across Leutnante, Oberleutnante and Hauptleute in 1939/40 that appeared to be cadets in the early 30s and I'm trying to match them. It's easier with uncommon names, when you don't have their first names in either or both eras. Thanks again, it helps.
