3rd and 60th panzer Gren. divs at stalingrad

Post by Eduard »

Srs,

In most accounts of Stalingrad battle both pGd dvisions are few or not mentioned at all during the fighting for the city or afterwards.

As far as I know they took littel part in the fighting for the city and robably were some of the more "ready" units inside the pocket when it was formed but were not used to try to maintain it open...

any ideas

Hello

Both divisions were Inf.Div.(mot) and reformed as Panzergrenadier-Divisionen after they were destroyed in Stalingrad.

Both were up north, holding the landbridge between the Volga and the Don. At least one of them got sucked into fighting for the northern suburbs of Stalingrad. They were badly out of position to try and breakout of the pocket.
