PLEASE not again. This is not a Kubelwagen but, more important, this is NOT Peiper. It's not even a member of his Kampfgruppe. This picture was taken on 18 December 1944 around noon at the Kaiserbaracke crossroads east of Stavelot and shows an Unterscharführer of 3./SS-Pz.AA1 LSSAH (Kampfgruppe Knittel). Peiper and his men were never even near this location.

Peiper himself was so annoyed by this constant misindentification that he wrote this letter to a newspaper that made this common error...

Image

The mistake originates from the Imerial War Museum were they captioned another pic from this series as "Peiper". However, the following pic shows in better detail that it's not him...

I find the following photograph very touching since every soldier of every nation has a family that saw him being born, playing around as a beloved child and growing up to be man. Then comes war...

On this specific photograph I imagine the Son going on to war and his Father accompanying him for maybe the last time...

Hello dear Helmut !

Respect for Léon because he his one of the few that never turned their cap.
Beside he was and still is a shame for my little Belgium I agree that he was a excellent soldier an excellent commander and an excellent "bitter mouth" ... when he have something to say (and he was right the mostly part of the time)

Gunter

That's my favourite one, as it shows a veteran's defiance, by still wearing his uniform after the war. well, I guess who you know that soldier is..... But of course, this is nothing political. (disclaimer)

the person to the unidentified driver's right side is SS Untersharfuhrer Ochsner...and the man behind the driver is SS Unterscharfuhrer Persin.

Damnit this webmaster sux like hell

there is the DEFINITIV link or this photo section

http://www.eucmh.com/00-german-archives ... um/konrad/

and again I am sorry but too much material and didn't find a way to get these online in a way I can find my own way back into the server when I am working on it.

An exemple .... yesterday I was working on the AEF 17-18 battle participation and someone called me on ICQ ... to give me a link to (he said) some nice photos .... going from Meuse Argonne Battle in France I am now into B-26 Bomber and 93 pictures to download ... beside on the other computer my daugther is still dealing with ober 8000 pages AAF studies on the Luftwaffe in WW2 ... (mostly done from ex Luwfaffe top officers) ... beside this someone in the USA (unknown) is uploading photos and photos and photos and me ... poor webmaster is searching for my Prozak (lol) to cool down ....

Beleive me it's not easy.

Now there is another problem .... the way the "History" is turning on ...
I just saw a report on the TV ... saying a great great work on the Nuremberg trial .... Cool ... I watched the thing (wich was well done) but the whole damn thing hasn't nothing to do with Nurnberg Trial but with the private war between Herman Goering and Colonel Andrus (the jail keeper).

This thing was so well made that when it ended I surprised myself to think ... hehehehe Heman you @#% them all .... and even started to find this war criminal (because he was - beside a great WW1 figther) sympatic.

There is also something that I don't like in the history today ...
One SS soldier is automatically one Dachau soldier or a children killer.

Are all negro troops (US Army) Raper ? 3 US soldier were hunged in Normandy in 1944 because they raped and killed a woman. Are all the amercan troops raper ? all killer ?

I am staying in World War One and World War Two history because it is for me the last war with Honor. These war were war for soldiers on both side. 1 olive drab man with a rifle standing in the face from 1 other olive drab man with a rifle. No things like today were all the WARRIORS are experts in dishonnered fight without uniform in the dark and only able to kill 1 or 2 soldiers with the 30 or 40 civilians they killed in the same time.

I am a pro american guy. I am even a @#% pro american guy but hell believe me this will soon ending if this white house jerk, the son of antoher white house jerk doesn't stop playing God on the planet.

Anyway ... . it sux

Hello Milbay:
No, not all Black American soldiers were rapists. Many fought quite honorably in WWII, and others broke their backs to help keep the US forces supplied and fed. A US P-51 unit never lost a US bomber to enemy aircraft action that it escorted. The tails of their aircraft were painted red and US bomber crews breathed a sigh of relief when they saw them flying escort. Their pilots were Black. It is also good to remember they did all of this for a country that did not treat them with the respect they deserved.
No, not all American soldiers were killers. They were sent to Europe to fight a war they did not feel was their own, and in the process had to kill Germans, whom they generally had a high opinion of. Most did not like it very much. They felt their war was with the Japanese. My father was one of them by the way.
Please keep your comments about current politics to a minimum, except as they relate to the German Army 1919-1945. Best wishes.

John I think that question about Americans might have been rhetorical, read it again together with the one above it...

Maybe not as fluent as PM2, but saying the same thing - not a comment on US troops as much as a comment on popular perception of German ones.

Avete,

Image

I find this image quite striking. It seems to not just represent war, but everything in general.
