SS topic of interest poll
No disrespect to the 101, but I had never heard of Major Winters until that mini-series. The people that I had always admired growing up were 2nd Lt. Audie L. Murphy from Farmersville, Texas -- the most highly decorated U.S. soldier in ww2. Also people like Michael Wittman, the famed Tiger Ace or Hans Rudel the Stuka Pilot.
God Save Texas!!!
If you want to see what a group of pissed off Texans can acomplish, look no further than the Alamo and to San Jacinto.

Heroes
Hello Nighthawk:
Audie was a piece of work!! Actually there were many Allied and Axis heroes that one never hears about!! One of my favorites is Paddy Flint of the US 9th ID. He used to run around in a red undershirt in full view of the enemy, ala A.P. Hill of Civil War fame, until the Germans finally got him in Normandy. A sad lose!! Best wishes.

1.) 9th SS Panzer Division "Hohenstaufen" and 12th SS Panzer Division "Hitlerjugend"
2.)Wilhelm Bittrich
3.)Wittmann (again, I'm afraid, curse his hide)
4.) The Battles for Caen June-July 1944, Arnhem, Lake Balaton
5.) Not modeller or painter, I'm far too lazy and cack-handed for that, but a collector of 1/32 die-cast armour.

"An American officer asked me once 'How on earth do you kill a Tiger?', so I told him to go and shoot it up the arse."

Re: SS topic of interest poll
Here's my 2-cents worth.
My main interests are finding OOB's and Fuhrerlisten for different Waffen-SS divisions. I am doing major research on the 7 major SS Panzer Divisions, the 6 major SS Panzergrenadier Divisions and the Prinz Eugen Gebirgs Division. I do not really care about what equipped them, just the personalities and the unit structures.

Re: SS topic of interest poll
For some reason I have a difficult time using the term favorite for such a serious subject. Using the term favorite kind of equates this subject more like pop culture more than a serious historical subject
But then what I am saying is more or less semantics to some.
I prefer fascinating, interesting
Interests, what i like to study or read about.
1. The late war divisions created out of desperation from criminals and training schools.
2. Commanders don't really have any
3. Recipients don't really have any
4. Battle of Berlin, Halbe pocket, Vienna and Prague Offensives
5. Figures, used to and wouldn't mind getting back into it.

1) Wiking and "Nederland".
2) Hausser & Muhlenkamp
3) Mooyman & Dorr
4) Hard to say: Narva, Kovel, Frühlingserwachen
5) Some Dragon models.

Re: SS topic of interest poll
John Ringo's Posleen War SCI FI series has quite literally "resurrected" the Waffen SS. The threat from outer space forces them to rejuvenate a senile Mulhlenkamp who forms 8 SS divs to fight the cannibalistic aliens. Not a bad read - called Watch on the Rhine.
