dien bien fu...

Post by max wiedl 3./SS Pz.Pi.Btl »

firstly i would like to say a big hi to every one as ive just found somewhere where alot of knowedgable people talk about a subject i like (though know absolutly nothing about!)

i read many years ago that the french foreign legion that fought at dien bien fu were mostly made up of ex waffen ss that the french allowed in not too many questions asked at the wars end, is there any truth in this? after all there would have been a large pool of battle hardened men sitting unemployed in germany after the war. high profile officers from various arms worked for other nations, did the Wss do the same?
if so, where else did they fight?

Welcome!

Before this goes too far, try doing a forum search for the French Foreign Legion, or The Devil's Guard. Scan through the Waffen-SS section. This has been beaten to death in the past.

Were there Germans in the Legion post-WWII? Yes. Were some of them former W-SS? Yes. Most? Not hardly...

Parading in the above Photo, 95% of these FFL Soldiers, in Saigon in the early 1950s, were Germans, Ex-Veterans of the Wehrmacht, and the Waffen-SS.

If You are interested, I can post many, and better Scans within a few Days...?
