Enola Gay / Death-Pills for the crew...?

In several documentations on german TV, these "Death-Pills" were mentioned, these pills were handed over to the Pilot Tibbets, but only one(?) member of the crew-members took one of the pills from Tibbets before the Enola Gay took off to Japan.

Any information about these "Death-Pills", in the docu they mentioned "kills you within 20 seconds, without pain!".

He also brought a small cardboard box holding a dozen cyanide pills, in case his crew had to bail out over enemy territory.

Were these "Pills" oficially issued from the american Air-Force at that time?

To me pers. no other case is known, the so called "Death-Pills" were handed over to any pilot/crew...?

The Tail-Gunner took a pill from tibbets, with his right hand, stuffed the pill in his pocket, and left it there...

A death-pill without any cover, just pure in the hand, hard to believe?
