Greetings Troops !! :D

I have just received my copy of “Kriegsprache” by Thomas L. Houlihan III (better know to most of us as just plain “Tom”) and published by Maps at War, Lake Orion, Michigan.

The book is a compilation of over 25,000 German Military (and period-specific) words, phrases and abbreviations for hobbyists, researchers and historians and is a MUST buy for anyone seriously studying the military arm of the Third Reich during World War II.

I most strongly recommend that you rush right out and purchase this extremely handy research tool!

My copy now rests in a place of honour in the top right hand drawer of my desk, where I can reach it quickly!

To Tom I would like to say “congratulations” on a fine piece of work. You should feel very, very proud of this - the finished product of your many years of labour.

Let me add my personal recommendation too. Even for veteran translators like me, there are new items in this book. Anyone looking at the original German material, who is not a 'natural' German speaker, will benefit from Tom's work.

Is this expanded beyond the material in the German Military Dictionary (1944 reprint) done by Lancer Militaria ? Been wearing out copies of that for years.

The book is now available on Amazon, but so far only in the US. I'm not sure why it hasn't hit the other countries' pages yet. Maybe their computers are slow?

Hmm...some countries don't even have an Amazon-site. Amazon.nl doesn't exist but through the Lulu-site I was redirected to their Dutch page and it was available alright and at 21,43 Euro's I think it's quite a bargain!
If only I didn't understand any German :( I'd surely buy it :D

Excellent work Tom   congrats!!

Nice one Tom. I remember sending all those packets full of as many abbreviations as I could find. Glad to see it in it's final form now.

Now how about 'Nord', eh? Or are you taking a break from all this mess. @{

Mansal, I'm still working on Nord, but also trying to tie up a few loose ends that have unraveled recently.

AND, after the many months I’ve had Tom’s book, I am totally embarrassed to admit the many times I've had to turn to it for clarification of many German terms that I thought I knew!!

(And I “THOUGHT  ” I "KNEW" “EVERYTHING  ”!!)

Thanks, again, Tom!!

hi tom
i recived your book today wowwwww
this book will help me so much with german military terms.
it is laid out how the person who needs to know a specific meaning of a word.
they can just go to the page i/e beginning with the letter in question
and get the german military meaning for that word.
a first class reference libary as far as i am concerned no more wikipedia now.
i must say lulu where i brought your book from gave a first class service
they sent me a e/mail ''book dispatched'' arrived within 7 days including a english bank holiday weekend.
what a first class service.
only problem was my user name charlieboy {my jack russell terrier} was having a sleep at the top of the stairs
and i had left the door slightly ajar, and he does not like the postman at all  so their was some damage to the packaging.
i did apoligise to the man but he was not amused, but the good news is the book was fine :D
once again tom
many thanks for a first class reference libary i would highly recomend this book to anyone re this subject.

Thanks, Micky!

Luckily, Lulu packs pretty well. I'm glad you're happy with the book. I fear it'll never make the Times Bestseller list, but comments like yours make it worthwhile.

Hello Gents:
I received my copy a few days ago, and I am very pleased with Tom's glossary. I've already used it on several occasions, especially for abbreviations. LULU gave excellent service and the book was packaged very safely. As there are few, if any, German military dictionaries on the market these days, this is your best bet, and it is going to be worth every penny you spend on it. In addition, one will have the distinct pleasure of adding to the ever growing Houlihan fortune  and supporting one of our own. Good show, Tom.
