Calling all published authors on Feldgrau!

Post by Jason Pipes »

Starting in 2008 Feldgrau will highlight those forum members who are also published authors in a format that will concentrate on their works specifically. This will allow published authors to get feedback on their work, to let other members know about their work, and to help thank those authors that have contributed so much to our greater understanding of the period.

In addition we have a new forum rank known as "author" which is open to anyone that has been published.

New outlet for authors on Feldgrau

Post by Doug Nash »

Hi Jason -
this is a great idea you have - a lot of authors pop up every now and then on Feldgrau (George Nipe, Richard Hargreaves, John Moore, Marc Rikmenspoel, etc.) and many others (a couple of big ones that I know) monitor your site but don't post, yet still benefit from the discussions (hope they give credit in their bibliography where credit is due!). Since we can't sit together the same room due to geography, we can sit and discuss our manuscripts, ideas & so forth virtually - this way, we can bounce ideas off one another and talk about new book concepts without having to waste a lot of time writing about something that no one has any interest in.
Good luck for this project during the new year!
Best regards,
Doug Nash

Hi Jason,

Excellent idea with which I concur wholeheartedly, not least as I'm looking to bounce ideas off fellow members re: my next work!

Feldgrau gets a credit in my Normandy book and will get one in my Poland book too as there's not a day goes by when I don't check some fact or other or seek advice here.

If you p-m me your e-mail I'll ping (technical term) my Poland manuscript.

Finally, is there a way of changing my "codename" to my real name? It's about time I came out of the closet, so to speak. :D

Send me a PM and I can change your user name to your real name Halder! As you know we were considering making that a requirement but there are too many obstacles to doing so, so instead it's an optional choice but one we support entirely.

As for your published works, if you send me a complete list we will gladly add you to the Feldgrau author list.

I'd *love* to get a copy of your Poland manuscript as well. When we chat via PM I can give you my mailing address.

Thanks!!

Do fictional works count as well? If so, then I know someone who needs mention...

This is a very good idea as it allows authors in specialist areas to obtain feedback from readers of their works.

I especially would be seeking feeback in relation to my first offering "Valhalla's Warriors: A history of the Waffen-SS on the Eastern Front".

Thanks

Hello all,

I have not posted here much but my wife bought me some of the maps from here and the quality is outstanding.

I have written a couple of books and I have a website where I am posting research from various archives.

My books:

Police Battalions of the Third Reich. Schiffer Publishing, November 2007

Book Description
The role that the German Police Battalions played in the destruction of the Jews and the Eastern European nationalities that the Third Reich had deemed superfluous or dangerous is little known. Only in the last fifteen years with the opening of the Soviet archives has their role in the deaths of millions become known. The German Police, often aided by local auxiliaries shot at close range over a million people in less than two years. Later in the war the battalions were formed into regiments and absorbed into the SS where they were active in the hunt for partisan bands behind the front lines. In this book you will find a history of each battalion and the men who participated in these actions. Many of these men who survived the war were never tried. Instead they continued their careers in law enforcement with many retiring with pensions from positions of importance.

If you have any questions about Police Battalions from the book or just questions please send me an e-mail as I am updating my information as I do more research.

SS-Polizei: Memories of Poland, Turtle Publishing, October 2007 (Self Published)

Book Description
Based on research I did for the "Police Battalions of the Third Reich" SS-Polizei is the story of one man and his role in the Holocaust. Beginning iin 1940 he describes what it was like for him and the men in his squad to participate actively in the death of tens of thousands of Jewish men, women, and children. The story follows his police battalion from the ghetto of Warsaw to the execution by firing squad of countless numbers of human beings. The deportation of thousands of Jews to the death camps and the battalions role in the bitter anti-partisan war that was fought behind the lines of the Wehrmacht. All events that are described actually happened. The main character is a historical recreation by the author. The photo on the cover is an actual member of one of the battalions whose photo album I acquired.

My Website
thegermanpolice.com

Almost all the research is from US Holocaust Museum in DC. What I have is:

Selected Records from the Ordnungspolizei
SS/SD Records from Ostland
RF-SS Komando Stab (incomplete but I plan on doing all the reels)
Einsatzgruppen Records
Some of the "Die Polizei" magazine
Personnel Records, etc...

Thanks for your time,

Steve Campbell

Jason, not to blow my own horn, but I wanted to let you know my book; Panzer Regiment 8 in WWII, was just released by Schiffer.

The book is out there and I just received a copy myself about 3 weeks ago. Looking forward to the reviews by the forum members once the book begins its circulation.

Thanks

Fish - I could not find a book with the title Panzer Regiment 8 in WWII on either Schiffer's or Amazon's Web sites. It would be helpful to prospective readers of your book if you could give us the exact title of your book and your full name. Perhaps you would like to start a new topic here on your book with that information along with a description of the content of your book.

John, thanks, surprised you couldn't locate it. This might be more helpful to you and others

Full Title: Panzer Regiment 8 in World War II: Poland. France. North Africa
Published by: Schiffer Pub, Release date; scheduled Sept 2008, actual Nov 2008.
ISBN:978-0-7643-3087-2
Author: Kevin Fish
Price: 59.99
Book is primarily text, 300 pages, large format and covers the History of the Panzer Regiment from 1936-1943.
The book provides a lot of first hand accounts from all three campaigns. There are over 170 photos and 20 maps (Thanks to Tom Houlihan)
The book is not designed to be a lot of fluff, simply a book to tell the story of this proud regiment. I have hoped to give a good impression of the battles fought and back them up with combat reports and first hand accounts. I think I did a pretty good job with the book, especially for a 1st timer. I think I have included a lot of good stuff, especially Africa. I tried to tell the story from the point of view of the regiment, a tactical view, and its participation in the battles they fought in and not to give a strategic view of these campaigns.

Of course time, and the reader will let me know if I have done a good job, I hope I have done the veterans proud.
