irony?

Post by Dragunov »

I love irony...

so our music teacher hands us all a load of new score and we, as diligent students, ask, "what the hell is this for?"
so he replies, we're going to play some hymns as the students work their way into the gym on remembrance day. okay.
one problem: my friend noodles around with the melody of one of the songs and... it sounds awfully like that tune... Deutschland lied?
so it turns out that it IS Deutschland Lied, just disguised as "In these halls" or something like that. wait, who did we fight in WW2...
so I, as a good Canadian, pointed this out and the music teacher had one of them oshit! moments. so we won't do it.

potential disaster averted.

and yes, we're playing O Canada. 8)

Cheers,
Dragunov

My high school played a tune at graduation for years that I know of. It was entitled "The Austrian Hymn." You guessed it! Same tune, different title!! There were 2-3 of us knowledgeable about WWII that chuckled every time we played it!

Doesn't matter where the tune came from. The sentiments are the same world over.
BTW.....what is a good Canadian?

at a lack of better words...

yes, that's true., but it's more of what it represents, or what it had represented.
perhaps not the most appropriate song to play on the eleventh in Canada, in any case.
it's all about that nationality barrier. our dead...

point two: see opening line... your question can also be interpreted several ways, and my interpretation is thus guaranteed to be incorrect. (no logic here.) perhaps a "good Canadian" is one that does not get drunk and piss on foreign war memorials... or is it the lad who takes the pictures and sends them to the police?

about the beer... not I. it tastes awful. party hard, for dragunov cannot.
Medium rare?
nah, that's Alberta beef. good stuff! 8)

Had beef in Alberta. Turns out in came from Uruguay. Bloody awful stuff.

Whats the big deal about music? All it is is noise punctuated by silence.

Takes talent to play the Didgeridoo! Best of all, it's off limits to the fair sex, as I keep telling my German 2nd cousin who plays it. Howeve being a woman she naturally does not take any notice. One day the mjn mjn light will get her. :D
Now we really are off topic!

Pity I raised that Uruguayan beef, ugh I can still taste it.

The vast majority of beef consumed in Alberta is raised here. You must have gotten"the special"somewhere.

I didn't even think that Canada, let alone Alberta would import beef. But I suppose we are all tied to markets that we don't really want. Like Aus. importing fruit from the States and Brazil etc., while we plough our orchards into the ground. Go figure. Next we will import coal :D
