I recently came upon an author at a book fair who had written a novel about WWII that he said had a science ficition tough to it. I remember seeing a movie about a submarine that enters some sort of far out world full of big wild animals. Have there been other movies or novels of WWII or other wars with a sci-fi theme?

The Martin Sheen movie about an aircraft carrier then goes through a time warp was entertaining.

Hello Gentlemen!

One series of books that really connects WWII and Sci-Fi have to be Harry Turtledove's multi-volume series "Worldwar" which starts with In the Balance: An Alternate History of the Second World War (Worldwar, Volume 1). I read the first one some ten years ago and the story is basically in the middle of WWII the Earth is attacked by Aliens so all old foes (humans that is) must unite. See link:

The "Submarine in Prehistoria" film you're thinking off is the old 1970's Hammer flick "The Land that Time Forgot" starring (!) Doug McClure...and of course Caroline Munro....funny that, no matter how primitive the caveperson, they always seem to have invented eyeliner and underwired brassieres!

Weapons of Choice: World War 2.1 by John Birmingham, excellent time-travel themed book, first in a series. Modern naval vessels in a combined exercise are sent back in time to Midway era and all havoc unfolds!

...struck me as more of a fantasy story than sci-fi. "The Land That Time Forgot" started off with a interesting sci-fi premise but seemed like low budget fare as the story went on. Thanks for the replies. I will check the references out.

The only thing low about "The Land That Time Forgot" was the cut of Caroline Munro's fur brassiere!

P.S. am I wrong or wasn't it credited to an original Lin Carter novel???

Also, what about the Japanimation TV series "Star Blazers" back in the 70s/80s that refloated the YAMATO and turned it into a space cruiser fighting aliens intent on destroying Earth?

...more successful as a fish out of water than it ever was in...

note the powerful "wave motion gun" at the bow of the ship, powerful enough to destroy anything those pesky aliens can deliver

There is a WWII book series too.
The Seventh Carrier.

Modern day forces need to use WWII tech and equipment due to a Electro magnetic bomb etc etc.

Japanese carrier is on Allied side and the bad guys are using Stuka etc.
There are 7 or 8 books in the series.

And thank you sniper! Had never heard of this series either, but found two on ebay and have bought them! You guys are going to send me broke...
