Archival Records destruction

Post by MadDog »

From what I have gathered, the main repository of field command records were bombed at some date, resulting in the destruction of most field command records after June-July 1944.

Is there any reference for this event in a book or published article ? I wold like to be able to point to this event as an endnote in a book chapter.

thanks,

I was founding only this:

1944/1945
The more valuable civil holdings of the Reich Archives are moved to external locations due to the war. The holdings which had not been removed were largely destroyed in an air attack in April 1945.

Subsequent to my post, I think I found a reference to a bombing raid on April 13th.

This isnt clean up yet (part of a chapter in edits), but here is what we use:

KTB des OKW 1940 - 1945, 4 Bde., hrsg. von Percy Ernst Schramm, Frankfurt a.M., 1961 - 1965 ; Vol. IV, p. 1824 - 1825.
