1914-1919

This may be a bit of a schoolboy question, but why do some brit war memorials say 14 to 19? What happened after the armistice? Was it something to do with Baltic states? Or the middle east?

November 11th, 1918 was only an Armistice - a ceasefire. The war didn't officially end until 1919 with the Paris Peace Conference resulting in the Treaty of Versailles.
