Ernest Louis --> Russia, Aug. 1916, to broker Peace ??

Post by Iron_Bismarck »

I watched a movie about the Anastasia Romanov, who purportedly survived the 1918 massacre of her royal family at the Ipatiev House in Yekaterinburg, and who surfaced in Berlin in 1923.

According to this movie, Ernest Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse, and brother of the Czarina Alexandra...

...visited Russia in August 1916, to broker peace on the Eastern Front.

Has anyone heard anything about this? It does make sense, for in April 1917, the Germans sent Lenin back to Russia to knock her out of the war. Given the Germans' antipathy towards Communism (and Kaiser Wilhelm's relation to Czarina), it is logical (and hence likely, if not certain) that Germany would have offered peace terms before taking such a drastic step.

If true, this would mean that in late 1916, the Germans offered peace to Russia. Yet, as Rasputin was murdered (Dec.) and power swung away from the Czarina and back to the corrupt old guard, the Russians refused the German offer. So, only in desperation, Germany made a deal with Lenin.
