I am searching for information and especially personal accounts from the 53. Infanterie Regiment in their three-day battle along the Albert Kanal in Belgium during the Westfeldzug, on 11, 12 and 13 May 1940.
I am trying to find out exactly what happened, as my grandfather was one of the soldiers in the Belgian 38th Line Regiment that opposed them. His regiment was surrounded by the 53. and a regiment from 19. Infanterie Division, and he was taken prisoner on May 13, 1940.
Any help on information, diaries or photographs from this battle would be very welcome.
