The Minenräum-Abteilung 1 (Demining Detachment 1) in Barbarossa.

With the start of the operations, both companies worked together with active temporary battle groups of the infantry units and tank units; they began their fight in Grodno (1st Company) and in Vilna directions (2nd Company).

The first engagement of the deminers in a combat situation was uneventful, as there were no minefields in the alleged locations.

Hello to all ; something more.................

The Minenräum-Abteilung 1 (Demining Detachment 1) in Barbarossa.

Report of the 20. Pz: in the evening of June 30, 1941, the Gefechtsgruppe Kempchen conducted a successful raking action. However the 12. Pz failed to connect with the 20. Schützen Brigade and a gap of 800 meters remained in the own lines that was detected by the enemy, so immediately Battalion v. Petersdorff was engaged there. The I. / SR 112 and the antitank company attached, suffered casualties whose number has not been reported yet. Finally in the morning the 12. Pz could establish liaison with smaller units.

All night and until mid-morning on July 1, 1941, the enemy tried to break to the south and southwest. The relief of the I. / SR 112 by the II. / SR 59 ended at 11:30 hours and Hauptmann Menke was tasked to implement raking actions in the city (Vilnius). [Here comes the interesting] The Minenräum-Abteilung 1 engaged in the area of the SR 59 was employed in action twice and due to enemy combat patrols several of their vehicles were blown in the air.

It was during this time, especially on July, 05 where the Germans amphibious Min.R.Wg Sd.Kfz.300 B.II "duck" from the 3rd Platoon of the 2nd Company of the Minenräum-Abteilung 1 together with other parts and units, successfully forced the crossing from the Western side of the Dvina river and Beshenkovichi (between Vitebsk and Lepel), taken the city of Vitebsk before July 08, 1941.

The Minenräum-Abteilung 1 (Demining Detachment 1) in Barbarossa. The end.

On July 08, 1941, the Abt.1 was fully transferred out of the command of the Army Corps, it left the area of operations of the 3rd Panzer Group and was sent to Vilnius, where it went afterwards to the station of Treuburg in order to reach Wunsdorf.

At the same time, it is known that five armored vehicles from the Minenräum-Abteilung 1 were put under the guidance of one officer in the headquarters of the Panzer Group, where they remained, and no further experiments were carried out, but the vehicles remained in reserve by the Transportation Group, as an explosives Transport.

Hello to all :D; something more.................

The Minenräum-Abteilung 1 (Demining Detachment 1) in Barbarossa. The aftermath.

On 15 September 1941 when Minenräum-Abteilung 1 was expanded with a third company and redesignated Panzer-Abteilung 300. On 9 February 1942 it received the additional name (FL) for "Funkleit", for the radio-controlled demolition vehicles used. It was sent to the Eastern Front and where it was assigned to Heeresgruppe Süd.

30 Corps' artillery was commanded by General Martinek, a particularly outstanding gunner officer who had previously held the same rank in the Austrian Army. Unfortunately he was later killed in the east as a corps commander. Altogether the corps had twenty-five heavy and medium, twenty-five light and six mortar batteries, as well as orte assault-gun and two observation battalions. Also assigned to it was Panzer-Abteilung 300, whose tanks were remote-controlled and carried high-explosive
charges.

During operation "Störfang" in 1942, the Germans used remote-control demolition vehicles in combat (see below).

Hello to all :D; something more.................

The Panzerabteilung (Fkl) 301 in Citadel.

Three independent radio-controlled companies were used in the sector of the 9. AOK in the attack south of Orel from 5 to 8 July 1943. Two were attached to the Schweres-Panzerjäger-Regiment 656 and one to the Pz. Abt. 505. The subunits were engaged as a whole under the command of their leaders. The combat missions were basically the same for all of them: aggressive combat reconnaissance, detection of minefields and open lanes through them, destruction of difficult obstacles such as antitank positions and hostile heavy tanks. The Pz-Kp 314 (Fkl) under Hauptmann Braam was employed with the 1. / Schw. Pz-Jäg. Reg 656 (Schw. Pz-Jäg. Abt. 653); Pz-Kp 313 (Fkl) under Oberleutnant Fritschken with the II. / Schw. Pz-Jäg. Reg. 656 (Schw. Pz-Jäg. Abt. 654) and Pz-Kp 312 (Fkl) with Pz. Abt. 505.

Results: the barren terrain was heavily mined and the Radio controlled demolition vehicles could not fulfill their mission successfully. Excessive weight of the Ferdinand restricted the momentum of the attack in the radio controlled units; control tanks moved quickly forward but had to wait too long for the Ferdinand and suffered casualties from enemy defensive fire. On the other hand the powerful effect of hostile artillery fire made the job much more difficult for the attackers. Both radio controlled companies (with Schw. Pz-Jäg. Reg.) quickly lost combat power and due shortage of reserves could not cover their losses. The Pz-Kp 313 (Fkl) and 314 (Fkl) advanced on a wide front ahead of the heavy regiment astride the Orel-Kursk railway against a position echeloned in depth and heavily mined.
