Hello Lads,

Could somebody tell me more about Shingle Street, the German attack on the S.E. coast of the U.K. ?
Could you also tell me which unit were involved in this attack?
I don't speak about Operation Seelöwe but this happened in August 1940.

It's one of the enduring myths of WWII, and it's discussed in some detail in Peter Fleming's Operation Sealion as the "bodies on the beach" affair. The events that gave rise to the legend was most likely any of the MANY destroyer patrols/coastal forces encounters in the Channel during the "invasion period", or Bomber Command attacking german forces and supply dumps etc. on the coast - soemtimes with great success, such as a massive arms dump at Dunkirk being blown skyhigh.

In the end - even the bodies seem to have vanished; it was always "someone else up the coast" who had picked them off the beaches....
