Pak 40

Were pak 40's used without their gunshield? If so, how often did soldiers take it off, and which front usually did soldiers take off the gunshield?

I never saw a photo of the gun being used without the shield. Why do you think so?

The shield on the pak 40 would have added to extra weight (as it was already a heavy gun) and didnt do much for protection anyway (pretty small) so just like the 88mm gun, the shield may have been taken off, but just a thought.
