German Army Signal Corps 1934 - 1939.

Post by tigre » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:02 pm

Hello to all :D; here goes something dealing with the reconstruction of the German Army Signal's branch.........

Reconstruction of the German Army Signal’s branch.

Just days after taking power, Hitler informed the army leadership that their target was that Germany went out of the military and political imprisonment in order to become a state which would led the European policy. On February 3, 1933, the generals were told about his intention that the army - as the main guarantee for achieving this goal - soon had to expand again in order to use it later, if necessary, to conquer Lebensraum in the East if Germany needed it.

For the Army Branch of Communications, the spring of 1933 brought the first - yet secret - rearmament measures:

• creation of new battalions (Abteilungen) plus the organization of radio companies in the already existing abteilungen.
• increase the number of officers cadets since April 1, 1933 by eight times;
• increase the number of officers and NCOs with former soldiers of communications and prepare them for new tasks.

The creation of new formations were carried out by cells. For this, existing companies or officers or NCOs were used to form the basis of the new organizations, which were filled later with conscripted recruits. Thus the process of expanding the Army Communications branch until the beginning of the war in 1939 took place in three separate periods.

Hello to all :D; here goes something more.........

Reconstruction of the German Army Signal’s branch.

The structure of the new Signal’s battalions included a wired communications (telephone) company and a wireless (radio) company, essentially equivalent to previous formations. Its smaller structural units, sections (Truppe) - received more and better equipment and increased its motorization. For example, there were wired sections: light, medium and heavy, wire lying telephone and operators of telephone and telegraph stations.

The wireless companies possessed various radio equipment, radio patrols, radio listening posts. The radio devices ranged from stations of 5, 20 and 200 watts of power, a large number of receivers with different bandwidths, portable radios - later known as knapsack radios - in long, medium and short range. In 1934, the General Command ordered the creation of the Korps-Nachrichtenabteilungen (Battalions of communications at Army Corps level), which had a third company, for the laying of communications cables (Feldfernkabel-Baukompanie).
