Hello to all :D; to come to an end with it.................

With the GJR 13 – 1942.

Being deployed in the Western Caucasus, the 4 GD (Mountain infantry division), had received the task of defending an important sector in the mountain in front of Tuapse.

Day after day the Soviets charged against the positions. During two weeks, every day even with attacks in the night, which increased the losses between the mountain hunters; nevertheless, they held their positions. In front of that positions ran the Gunaika stream.

Due to the reduction of their manpower, the I. Battalion organized a turkestani company; on 17.01.1943 it was overwhelmed a position of a machine gun in a group of that one company. Zehnder took part under intense machine-gun fire and managed to recover the situation.

Hello to all :D; last post.................

With the GJR 13 – 1943.

In the evening Zehnder stood in the left wing of the subunit, where it was warding a mountain hunter and a turcomano volunteer. From that place Zehnder saw a fraction of the enemy (a Patrol of about 30 to 40 men); the turcomanos engaged to the Soviets by the fire and Zehnder, along with the young Gefreiter hurried by the flank, assaulting to the the enemy patrol. An important success in the defense in this section was obtained and for that reason on 07/03/1943 he received the Knight’s Cross as Oberjäger and squad leader in the 1 Company of the GJR 13.
