Interesting tigre, one thing came to thought though...since there were so many horses required for such a big organisation such was the Heer...where did all those horses come from? I mean, did they have "horse wehrkreise" or what?

best,

Hello Nibelung, glad to greet you :D; taken from my first post..........
In the peacetime, the horses were purchased in the German breeding areas. The mass of the riding horses and the draw horses came thereby from East Prussia followed by the Hanoverian for the same use. For the artillery and the light horse-drawn of the infantry Holsteiner, Oldenburger and Ostfriesen horses were used primarily as draw horses. The heavy draw horses were from the remaining breeding areas.
The German army sent remount commissions to purchase the horses in these breeding areas. But later as the war was in progress the German Army took over the beutepferde (mainly from France) and the pferdepanje in the east...........

Hi Tigre.

Strange that horses serve us in every way they can even if we treat them as @#%!
As from were the horses came: In Norway Wehrmacht confiscated a lot of horses from the peasants.
I guess this was the same in all occupied countries.

Hello Zepp :D; yes I think to feed such an army like the German Army was they should confiscate as much beute pferde as they could. Thanks for your tip. Cheers. Raúl M 8).

saw a documentary on nbc about the russian front and how the horses kept on going where the trucks and tanks could not go on,there was a german vet that gave some info and when he talked about the horses he started crying with tears about how these animals suffered and worked and kept on working for the men,he had deep respect for these "worktools",and they did the job as history tells us
united we stand,divided we fall

hi sebastian
what would the wehrmacht have done without these wonderful creatures, yes i can imagine a vet crying, to see the pain and suffering these poor animals went through.
