Hi,i search all informations concerning the german units who taken the town of "lorient" the 21/06/40.During a meeting with the french troops (111°RAC/29°Dragons)near "Les cinq Chemin de Guidel" the german lost 8 men.I have the name of the kdt of the unit =Welcker ?Thank you for all informations.

Are you looking for the soldiers of the units or commandrs.You didn't state witch.

a company commander, or battery commander, etc,.............which means that you are looking for for a very small group of men,..............a company has between 80-120 men.................
14 to 16 companies to a battalion
3 battalions to a regiment
3 or 4 regiments to a division.
the easiest way to do it, is find the names of those men, (the commander might work, if you know the date of his death,........was he killed there also?), and go to the german war graves website. they might have the information on those 8 men also, but it is a shot in the dark..........you probably will not find out their names from them.

German units Lorient area - June 1940.

On June 21, 1940 at 10:00 hours, the combat began between a section of the Colonial Artillery and an infantry company on the one hand and 200 Germans coming from Quimperlé on the other. Despite their weaponry of fortune and the conviction "to be sent there to save the plume", the French troops will hold for two hours under the enemy fire. When the fighting ended, there were 14 deaths: two non-commissioned officers and six German soldiers. On the French side, Commandant Billaud, Capitaine Gardinier, Médecin-capitaine Marlette, caporal Le Baron and soldats Hervoche (29ème Dragons) and Février (111ème R.A.C.) were killed. AFAIK the column belonged to 7./ MG Btl 1 (11. Sch. Brigade). On March 11, 1940, the battalion was reinforced to seven companies.

On June 24, 1940 in order to pacify the territory numerous troops were relocated. Lorient II/AR 116 (5. Pz). The 5. Pz took Brest and General Joachim Lemelsen was appointed as Commander of Bretagne.
