Early Panzerspähwagen!

Post by tigre »

Hola a todos :D; something more to share..........................

Early Panzerspähwagen (Armored reconnaissance vehicles).

The Kfz. 13 was introduced into the Wehrmacht as its first armored vehicle. As armament, the two-men crew, had a MG 13 with 1,000 rounds of ammunition available.

The Sd Kfz. 221 was introduced as successor in 1935. As armament, the two-man crew had a MG 34 with 1,050 rounds of ammunition available in the open turret. Later, from the outbreak of war some vehicles were armed with the anti-tank rifle 39 or the 2.8-cm-heavy Panzerbüchse 41 in order to improve its combat efficiency. Furthermore, some others vehicles were equipped with a 2-cm-KwK plus a MG 34th, these vehicles were designated as Sd.Kfz. 222.

In June 1929 it had been adopted the previsions for building a heavy 6-wheel vehicle. Three companies started it from existing truck chassis. The heavy armored vehicle was called Sd.Kfz. 231 with a crew of four. The armament consisted of a 2-cm-KwK with 200 rounds and a MG 13 with 1,300 rounds.

Hello to all :D; a little more......................................

The first Panzerspähwagen (Armored reconnaissance vehicles) - Eight-wheeled vehicles.

However, the six-wheeled vehicle had no great off road capability, so it was decided to manufacture an eight-wheeled vehicle. The first of the series was the Sd. Kfz. 231 (8-rad) with eight tons. The chassis were designed and built by the firm Büssing in Leipzig. Armed with a 2 cm KwK 30/38 gun and 180 rounds and a MG 34 with 2100 rounds. The serial production began in 1936 and until December 1943, 607 units were built.

The Sd. Kfz. 232 (Fu) (8-rad) was basically the same car, but with better performance in terms of communications and has a loop antenna. In addition, the frontal armor was reinforced up to 30 mm. Ammunition for the MG 34 was only of 1,500 rounds. By July 1942 the antenna was replaced by another of star type.

The communications vehicle Sd. Kfz 263 (Fu) (8-rad) was a command vehicle with a long range communications equipment. The armament consisted of a MG 34 with 1,100 rounds. Behind the crew compartment it had an telescopic mast 9 meters high.

Probably due to the lack or the scarce number of vehicles suitable to the task, some Sd. Kfz. 221 were converted into command vehicles.
