Not everything in the Third Reich was spot on. If you look through photos, there are plenty of odds and ends. This may be an example as well. For instance, people sometimes say "The M40 Tunic was first put into production on January 1st, 1940!!!" This is incorrect. That was when it was mass produced. There are photos of men at one of Hitler's speeches pre-1940 and they are wearing M40 tunics.

I zoomed in the photo and really can't see any airbrushing.
Only he is lost who gives himself up as lost.
