Hi fellows,

like you I have seen many many WWII photos, but mostly portrait photographies of KC holders or photos in the field - all more or less staged.

Much more impressive are photos in the moment of impact or where soldiers´ faces tell you stories. These kind of photos are rare and to my knowledge have not been collected and presented.

I start here posting some of these photos I find impressive to start making a big topic and it would be great you post those you think are impressive in your eyes.

hi, none of your links and pictures work. :?

Image

that well known picture isn't probably staged, the look of exhaustion and desperation on that soldier's face hardly makes it propaganda material.

Isn't staged? Everybody knows it was staged so why do you suggest it wasn't?

Ave Timo,

Everybody knows it was staged? I have heard nothing of the like. How do you know that it is?

Hi all,

I always thought that that picture was a still from a newsreel. Many newsreels were staged but I don't know about this one.
Besides, what is meant exactly by 'staged'?
An infantry company is marching to the front. Going somewhere they really don't want to be. It's raining, everyone is miserable. As they walk past the PK-cameraman he says:"Come on lads, give us a smile!" and some actually manage to smile.
Would that count as staged?
I get the feeling that this picture falls into that category as opposed to many newsreels that were actually re-enactments. Those were definitely staged.

Here some from my collection which could fit to this topic

A platoon clears the area of a defeated russian landing. They take prisoners and recover wounded soldiers.

Thanks for the pictures. Some of those are new to me. I'm doubtful that the second one is wartime though. It looks like a reenactment. What's the source for the second photograph?
