German POWs released in the 50's

Post by eddie82 »

Does anyone have a rough idea of the number of German P.O.W.s sent back from the U.S.S.R. in the 1950's?

Known is the "Heimkehr der Zehntausend" (home coming of the 10.000). Konrad Adenauer and others
negotiated with the soviet union about the release of the last german POWs in soviet camps, about 10.000 former
soldiers and 20.000 political civil prisoners. Between october 1955 and january 1956 they were released to germany.

Hello Fridgeman. Only 30,000. Wow, given the number of Prisoner's taken this number is quite sobering. Thnaks for the info. Take care, Walter S.
