Taking leave during the Ardennes offensive?

Taking leave during the Ardennes offensive?

Post by Martins »

I have been researching my father's military history in the 986 Regt, 276 VGD. His Soldatbuch shows that he was granted leave (8.1.45 - 21.1.45) following his promotion to Uffz on 1.1.45. Was it possible for front line troops to take leave during the Ardennes offensive?

Why not?
When we go on operations overseas they start the leave policy within weeks. Leave is a way of maintaining moral and 1 or 2 soldiers per platoon is not going to matter in the big scope of things.
Only he is lost who gives himself up as lost.
