During the campaign in Western Europe, 1944-45, US tank units could of been using a variety of M-4 variants. Is there a good source of information that can tell me which unit was supplied with what version ? Stanton's US Army OOB book doesnt differentiate here.
thanks,

Re: Allied tank units
This is unfortunately a blind spot of the US Archives - we have to turn to the photos...
What is established is the units in ETO landed with M4+M4A1 75mm (DD are another case) plus M4 105 and M4A1 76 in July plus M4A3 76 and 75W in August and M4A3 105 soon afterwards. M4A3 76 HVSS arrived in late December 1944. M4A3 75 dry were late comers in spring 1945 along with M4A3 105 HVSS.
The 250 M4A3E2s (Jumbo) arrived in October AFAIR.
M4A2s and M4A4s were very rare because most were allocated to Lend Lease.

Amateurs talk tactics, historians study logistics, but what about amateur historians?
Re: Allied tank units
Hmmm.... this information must exist somewhere. I suppose the unit histories of the individual units would help, but thats doing things the hard way.
