Hawaiian Paper money during World War II

Post by PA. Dutchman »

Hawaiian Paper money during World War II.

While going through my fathers' keep sakes from the Pacific Theater we found a dollar bill or more a dollar silver certificate with Hawaii printed on the front and back of it.

I did a search and the United States issued paper money with Hawaii printed on it not yet knowing if Japan would invade Hawaii or not. Had Japan invaded Hawaii all the paper currency in Hawaii with Hawaii printed on it would have been declared worthless. The United States Government did not want Japan getting US currency to spend on their war efforts this way it could be declared worthless if it had Hawaii printed on it.
Sincerely yours,
