Looking for Pub Sources on 21st Army Group and US 3rd Army

Post by Stephan H. »

I am looking for recommendations on any authoritative published sources that cover:

1) Montgomery's 21st Army Group operations across Germany in 1945;
2) Patton’s drive across Germany and into Czechoslovakia in 1945.

Thanks on advance!

Hi Stephan:
Somewhere I have a copy of Lucky Forward written by a staff officer in Patton's command. I have no idea where you might find a copy of it, but from what I remember, it had an excellent staff level view of all of 3rd Army's operations. Let me look for you and get back.

John - My initial look into this period has produced few good published works, so any suggestions are welcome!

Always start with the official histories, many of which are available in their entirety on-line.

Gentlemen-thanks for the references.

Paul - I've been to that site (and it is a good one) and reviewed the official histories some time ago.

Andy - Thanks! I'll check out the link.

I've come to the conclusion that there isn't much out there that covers the Allied drive across Germany and into parts east (Austria, Czechoslovakia) from a military perspective.

I think I may have to put that on the list of projects to tackle. :D

Cheers,
Stephan
